Virginia State Del. Briana Sewell Jumps Into Race for Spanberger … – The Messenger

Virginia Democratic State Delegate Briana Sewell announced she’s running for the soon-to-be-open congressional seat currently held by Rep. Abigail Spanberger, D-Va.

Spanberger announced this month that she intends to run for Virginia governor.

Retired U.S. Army colonel Eugene Vindman, the twin brother to the former deputy legal adviser for the National Security Council at the center of former president Donald Trump’s first impeachment, previously announced he’s also running for Spanberger’s congressional seat.

Sewell has been a member of the Virginia House of Delegates since 2022.

“After I graduated from college, instead of taking some corporate job in a big city, I moved back home and went to work first for my hometown congressman, to make sure my neighbors had a voice, and later I advocated for paid family medical leave, helping start a campaign across Virginia,” Sewell said in her launch video. “Then I ran for delegate and became one of the youngest women ever elected to state government.”
